Inauguration day

This is the day all the first year students received their "Indexes"- grade books. All first year students from Polish and English programs of Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy and Medicine are given their indeces. This day is filled with ceremony, almost at the same level as graduation day. I personally thought the whole thing was a waste of time but I just had to accept it as part of Polish academic culture. All the deans and heads of departments were dressed in cloaks, unique headgear and even gloves. The first part took about two hours. This included speeches, a presentation about ongoing research on skin, a choir, awards to faculty, and taking of the physician's oath. After the break the second part featured the distribution of indeces. Everyone was called by name and given the index by the faculty.
