3rd histology result
Received 3rd histology result.
I have no details yet since I am part of the second group. I will post details when I have this class.
This exam covered a lot of material (blood, cardiovascular system, bone marrow, immune & lymphatic system, endocrine, respiratory system, & skin). It definitely helps to look at previous exams available from 2nd year students or Leszek's.
The professor is basically covering Langeman's Medical Embryology. It's important to study the images to understand stages of development. Different professors will be given lectures in this course.
I went to Auchan to do some shopping. Auchan is like Costo in the US only slightly bigger. It also has smaller shops around it like in a mall. It's located southwest of town on Glugowska street.
I didn't have to take it since I passed the test. I found out from other students that the retake was the same test that they had taken before.
Majority of the class failed the test, but I passed. The teacher said that those who had failed the test could retake it.
The teacher had told us that she would have the test if her computer was working, therefore lots of people didn't prepare for the quiz.
In order to receive the result everyone has to go to the histology department's office and request the secretary to give you your grade. You tell her your name and she gives you a tiny strip of paper with your name and grade printed on it. The grade is a maximum of 6 points. The failing grade is 2 points.
This is the day all the first year students received their "Indexes"- grade books. All first year students from Polish and English programs of Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy and Medicine are given their indeces. This day is filled with ceremony, almost at the same level as graduation day. I personally thought the whole thing was a waste of time but I just had to accept it as part of Polish academic culture. All the deans and heads of departments were dressed in cloaks, unique headgear and even gloves. The first part took about two hours. This included speeches, a presentation about ongoing research on skin, a choir, awards to faculty, and taking of the physician's oath. After the break the second part featured the distribution of indeces. Everyone was called by name and given the index by the faculty.
Our class of about 67 is split into 3 groups. We only have 2 cadavers for the whole class. While group A and B are working on the cadavers, group C gets to study from predisected parts of the body. After about 45 minutes everybody rotates so that group C can work on the cadaver as well. On the first day we covered the superficial and intermediate back muscles. One cadaver is male and the other is female. The disection was started from the back. The male cadaver had very little subcutaneous fat. The female cadaver had a lot of subcutaneous fat & therefore took longer to get to the muscle layer.
I took the "A" bus from Bukowska street near my dorm on Rokietnicka. It took 2 tickets and little over half an hour to get there. The big stores there are Real (like Walmart), Media (electronics & appliances), Ikea, and a hardware store called Praktiker. There are other stores such as claire.dk, Nike, Lee etc.
It covered chapters 4 thru 10 of Junquiera's Basic Histology 9th edition. The topics tested on the exam were epithelial tissue, connective tissue, adipose tissue, cartilage, bone, nerve tissue and nervous system and muscle tissue.
